NaRS Pool Lifeguard Course
Time Frame Valid for
Minimum of 36 hours 2 years
Course Content Pre- requisites
  • The role and duties of a pool a Lifeguard
  • The legislative background
  • The swimming pool and specialist water features
  • Pool safety operating procedures
  • First Aid
  • Resuscitation
  • Pool rescue techniques
  • Course homework and worksheets
  • 5 Multi-choice question papers
  • Continual tutor assessment
  • Examination
  • Candidates must be able to swim 100m on their front and back
  • Swim 50m in 1 minute
  • Be able to surface dive and recover an object from the deepest part of the pool
  • Be 16years of age, or older at the time of examination

  • Complete spinal management – pool environment
  • Supplementary oxygen
  • Manual suction
  • Wounds, dressings, Slings and Fracture Support

NaRS Pool Attendant Course
Time Frame Valid for
Minimum of 14 hours 2 years

  • First Aid
  • Resuscitation
  • Pool rescue techniques

  • Candidates must be able to swim 100m on their front and back
  • Be 16years of age, or older at the time of examination

  • Emergency procedures
  • Pool hazards and risk assessments
  • Operational duties and responsibilities
  • Relevant legislation
  • Candidates must be able to swim 100m on their front and back
  • Be 16years of age, or older at the time of examination
NaRS Appointed Person
Time Frame Valid for
Minimum of 6 hours 3 years
Course Content Pre- requisites
  • What to do in an Emergency
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • First Aid for the unconscious Casualty
  • First Aid for the wounded or bleeding
  • First Aid Equipment
  • Employers Risk assessment of First Aid needs
  • Candidates must be 16 years of age or older
